Dentists in KZN Don't Have an Aggregator Problem. Here's Why.
Across 45 queries in 18 KZN industries, 'dentist Durban' and 'dentist Umhlanga' are the only queries where aggregators take zero positions in the top ten. The reason tells every other industry something important.
In yesterday’s data, painters in Durban saw six of their top ten search results taken by aggregators. No independent painting contractor reached position three.
Today we are looking at the exact opposite.

Zero aggregators. Zero social platforms. Zero directories. Ten results, ten actual dental businesses.
“Dentist Umhlanga” produces the same result: recomed.co.za at one, gatewaydental.co.za at two, umhlangadental.co.za at three. Every result is a direct business site.
Across 45 queries, these are the only two where aggregators take no positions at all.
Why Dentists Are Different
1. Qualifications are verifiable
A dental practice has a registered practitioner. That practitioner has a HPCSA registration number. Google can verify that the business is what it claims to be. Snupit cannot compete with a real practice website on this dimension — it is a listing, not a credential.
2. The query carries high trust requirements
When someone searches “dentist Durban,” they are not browsing options. They are looking for a professional they will physically visit and allow near their mouth. The query intent is different from “painters Durban.” There is no equivalent of “I’ll take whoever shows up on Gumtree.”
Google has modelled this difference. High-trust queries — healthcare, legal, financial — return professional sources because that is what satisfies the searcher. Aggregators that list random tradespeople do not signal trustworthiness in this context.
3. Real websites with real content exist
Most dental practices have websites. Many have been building them for years. They have team pages, service descriptions, patient reviews, Google Business Profiles with hundreds of verified visits. The information is there, it is structured, and it is consistent.
A painting contractor, by contrast, may have nothing. Gumtree fills the gap.
4. Reviews are tied to real names
A patient who leaves a five-star review for their dentist is not anonymous. Their name, their photo, their verified visit — all of it signals that this is a real business with real patients. Aggregator listings have no equivalent signal. Google weights this accordingly.
What Other Industries Should Take From This
The dentist result is not a special case. It is a preview of what any industry looks like when its businesses have proper digital infrastructure.
Healthcare escaped aggregator capture because it was forced to build real websites. Regulation required it. Patient expectations demanded it. The result is that a legitimate dental practice in Durban now competes on merit — content quality, review volume, schema accuracy — rather than on whoever paid more to a directory.
Every trade industry could arrive at the same position. The businesses that do not wait for regulation to force the issue — that build a real website, complete their Google Business Profile, structure their service pages, and accumulate genuine reviews — will look like dentists. The ones that do not will look like painters.
The gap between the two is not technical skill. It is a decision about whether the business’s digital presence is worth owning.
